Amazon Game Studio Has Delayed Release Of Game

Amazon Game Studios has delayed New World until September 28, 2021. The MMORPG was previously scheduled to release on August 31, 2921.
In a message on the game’s official Twitter account, the development team thanks players for their participation in the recent Closed Beta test. The delay gives Amazon more time to “smash bugs, improve stability, and polish the game” based on feedback from players.
The following is Amazon’s announcement regarding the delay:

Throughout Closed Beta, New World received tremendous support from players around the world. More than 16 million hours were played during Beta. As a result of your support, New World became one of the most-watched games on Twitch, as well as one of the most played games on Steam. We have improved the game based on your feedback over the past year thanks to the passion and enthusiasm you have shown for New World.
Along the way, you’ve also given us a lot of feedback, which we’ll use to make New World even better. New World’s launch should be a smooth and fun experience for all players, so we’re making some improvements based on what you experienced during Closed Beta. We will take a few extra weeks to fix bugs, improve stability, and polish the game. The new global launch date for New World is September 28, 2021.
I did not make this choice lightly. As we’ve done before, we’ve changed the launch date to pursue quality, and we realize it can be frustrating to wait a bit longer. However, when the game launches, we want to ensure it is as high quality as possible. I appreciate your support and feedback. We’re listening to you. We look forward to seeing you in Aeternum.

Asian Game Developer Wants To Help Southeast Asian Game Developers

Toge Productions, the Indonesian developer of Coffee Talk, announced the launch of the Toge Game Fund Initiative, which will support Southeast Asian game developers.
The publisher will offer up to $10,000 in funding to Southeast Asian-based developers.
Besides providing financial assistance, the fund will also provide mentorship, consultation, and project management to assist with the creation of prototypes or minimum viable products.
Toge will have the right of first refusal to sign a publishing agreement with any supported projects, but developers will retain ownership of their IP.
“To help marginalized and underrepresented game developers in Southeast Asia turn their game ideas into reality, we want to offer you a safety net so that you can experiment and iterate,” the company commented on Twitter.
Developers who are interested in applying to the Toge Game Fund Initiative can do so at any time, according to the company.

Two More Amazon Executives Have Joined GameStop

The retailer has attracted two more Amazon executives to its leadership team as it announced recently that its new CEO and CFO will both join the online retailer.
Matt Furlong will take over as CEO of the company from his role as head of Amazon’s Australian business. He worked for Proctor & Gamble for a dozen years on brand, marketing, and sales strategy.
A long-time Amazon veteran, Mike Recupero, who most recently served as VP of finance and CFO for the company’s North American consumer business, will join him as CFO. Prior to joining Amazon, I served as a project manager for Hitachi and Koch Industries.
Since February, Amazon executives have been hired into C-level positions at GameStop. Amazon has also recently appointed chief operating officer Jenna Owens and chief growth officer Elliot Wilke, as well as chief technology officer Matt Francis.
In addition to the new appointments, GameStop released its first-quarter sales figures. GameStop reported net sales of $1.28 billion for the 13 weeks ended May 1 compared to $165.7 million in the year-ago quarter, during which COVID-19 was declared a pandemic.
The retailer attributed the increase in net sales to a 12% reduction in its global store base due to closing hundreds of stores and the COVID-19 pandemic causing many more closures in Europe.
In May, net sales grew about 27% year-over-year, the company said, but it does not provide guidance for future results.
