Monster Hunter Stories 2 Pre-Launch Program Is Revealed By Capcom

July 4, 2021

During Monster Hunter Stories 2’s pre-launch program, Capcom revealed more details about the game after its release next week. At last month’s E3 2021, people learned that the first post-release update will add Monster Hunter Rise’s Palamute companion as a new monster, but the pre-launch program revealed much more.
The four flagship monsters from Monster Hunter Generations (Glavenus, Mizutsune, Gammoth, and Astalos) had already been confirmed in the initial roster, the launch trailer revealed that Capcom would add all four Variants of these monsters through post-release updates. A Rathalos variant, a Kirin subspecies, and rare subspecies of Tigrex, Rathian, and Rathalos will also be added in the major patch.
The launch trailer included a roadmap of five free updates scheduled until October 2021; it was also shared on the English Monster Hunter Twitter page. Here is the detailed schedule:
July 15 – The Palamute as a monster
August 5 – Hellblade Glavenus and Boltreaver Astalos as new monsters and Kulve Taroth as a Co-op quest exclusive monster
early September – Soulseer Mizumushi, Elderfrost Gammoth, and Oroshi Kirin as new monsters
Late September – Dreadking Rathalos and Molten Tigrex as new monsters, as well as a Co-op quest exclusive Kulve Taroth
October – Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian as new monsters, as well as an unknown high-difficulty monster exclusive to the Co-op quest.
Below is the launch trailer, available in English and Japanese. Also, the English Monster Hunter channel recently published a new video demonstrating co-op gameplay on the Nintendo Switch version. Any online multiplayer features on the full Switch version of MHS2 will require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, just like all other major titles on the platform.
Next week, on July 9, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will be released simultaneously for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. There is a demo version of the game available on the Switch, but PC players will only be able to try it on launch day.

Myanmar Leader Suu Kyi Is Facing More Charges Before Trial On June 14th, 2021

June 12, 2021

Myanmar’s former leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, who led the country until the military took control in a coup in February, is facing more corruption charges just days before a formal trial is set to begin.
According to Global New Light Of Myanmar, the allegations, which come on top of a string of other charges, follow an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission into the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation.
According to the paper, she was found guilty of corruption by using her position. “So she was charged under section 55 of the Anti-Corruption Law.”
She is also accused of wrongdoing over a number of land and property leases for her foundation, where she is the chair, as well as accepting $600,000 and gold from the former chief minister of the Yangon region.
According to the paper, several other officials were also found guilty of corruption in granting land use permits.
According to the paper, the police stations in their respective townships opened case files against them recently.
Aung San Suu Kyi and senior members of her government were taken into custody by the military on February 1 after army chief Min Aung Hlaing seized power, plunging the country in a protracted crisis.
The generals’ power grab has sparked months of protests and a mass civil disobedience movement, which has been met with force. According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, which has been monitoring the situation, more than 850 people have been killed in the crackdown.
In addition to carrying unlicensed walkie-talkies, she violated the country’s coronavirus restrictions and breached its colonial-era Official Secrets Act.

Two More Amazon Executives Have Joined GameStop

The retailer has attracted two more Amazon executives to its leadership team as it announced recently that its new CEO and CFO will both join the online retailer.
Matt Furlong will take over as CEO of the company from his role as head of Amazon’s Australian business. He worked for Proctor & Gamble for a dozen years on brand, marketing, and sales strategy.
A long-time Amazon veteran, Mike Recupero, who most recently served as VP of finance and CFO for the company’s North American consumer business, will join him as CFO. Prior to joining Amazon, I served as a project manager for Hitachi and Koch Industries.
Since February, Amazon executives have been hired into C-level positions at GameStop. Amazon has also recently appointed chief operating officer Jenna Owens and chief growth officer Elliot Wilke, as well as chief technology officer Matt Francis.
In addition to the new appointments, GameStop released its first-quarter sales figures. GameStop reported net sales of $1.28 billion for the 13 weeks ended May 1 compared to $165.7 million in the year-ago quarter, during which COVID-19 was declared a pandemic.
The retailer attributed the increase in net sales to a 12% reduction in its global store base due to closing hundreds of stores and the COVID-19 pandemic causing many more closures in Europe.
In May, net sales grew about 27% year-over-year, the company said, but it does not provide guidance for future results.

Game Bits: Electronic Arts Contributed To Prize Pool For Apex Legends Global Series Championship, Esports Player Tenz Has Signed With Sentinels Esports Team

June 2, 2021

EA Contributed To Prize Pool

According to Electronic Arts, the total prize pool for the Apex Legends Global Series Championship is $2.58M USD. EA contributed an initial $1M to the prize pool, with the rest coming from sales of limited edition in-game skins. EA did not disclose precisely how many bundles it sold to reach this number.

In May, EA announced that select in-game bundles (Mechameleon, Boared to Death, Wild Speed, and Silverback, and a bundle containing all items called Animal Kingdom) would contribute to the ALGS prize pool.

EA contributed $5 for every bundle purchased and $20 for every Animal Kingdom bundle sold. According to EA, bundle contributions will be capped at $2M, making the maximum prize pool around $3M.

Todd Sitrin, Electronic Arts SVP and General Manager of Competitive Gaming, discussed EA’s high hopes for Apex Legends esports in a May interview.

Tenz Has Joined Sentinels Game Team

The player transfer agreement of Tyson “TenZ” Ngo from Cloud9 to Sentinels was signed in April and included an option for Sentinels to purchase Ngo’s contract. Sentinels have now completed the purchase of Ngo’s contract. TEO has learned that the transaction was worth seven figures.

Ngo, who joined Cloud9 Blue’s Valorant roster in April 2020, has been playing for Sentinels since March as a “loaned player” from Cloud9. The loan was approved following the investigation and suspension of former Overwatch League MVP turned Sentinel Valorant pro, Jay “Sinatra” Won, who had been accused of misconduct by his former girlfriend.

After failing to cooperate with the investigation, Woon was suspended by Riot Games for six months.

It is interesting to note that Ngo was loaned to Sentinels at a time when both teams were trying to qualify for the Valorous Champions Tour. Cloud9 and Sentinels played in the winner’s semifinals, with Sentinels and Ngo on loan beating Cloud9 2-1. Sentinels dropped a map in that match.

Go and his Sentinels team won the Valorant Champions Tour 2021: Stage 2 Masters in Reykjavik, Iceland on Sunday, going 4-0 in the tournament without dropping a single map. Ngo received the Day 7 MVP award for his performance in the finals.

There has been speculation that the deal has been in the works for months and was already completed before Ngo’s participation in Reykjavík. This has turned out to be true.

However, a portion of the esports community had been critical of Cloud9 because they wanted to see Ngo let out from his current contract to sign with Sentinels. Especially after winning VCT. However, the deal had already been signed.

Former Cloud9 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player Sean “sgares” Gares weighed in saying,, “He’s [Ngo] in F***ing contract jail, it’s not funny.”Game Gares was in a similar situation as Ngo and was let out of his contract with Cloud9 before the expiration after stating he wanted to take time off and think about possibly coaching. Cloud9 granted that release. Gares then signed with Echo Fox just over a month later and continued to compete.

While the general criticism Cloud9 is currently facing concerning this transfer, the organization has often acquiesced to the desires of players who want to retire, be traded, or simply be released–sometimes to the organization’s detriment.

Some examples of this include Jacky ‘Jake’ “Stewie2K” Yip being granted a trade to Made in Brazil; Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen, former Cloud9’ LCS mid-laner, granted his release to go to Team Liquid; and Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen being let out of his contract to go to Evil Geniuses after telling Cloud9 that he was unhappy with his playing time situation. Also, Ryan “freakazoid” Abadir was released, per his request, asking the organization to allow him to step down.

The list continues with players being transferred to teams of their choosing such as Timothy “automatic” Ta and Damian “daps” Steele going to Gen.G, and Rocket League player Mariano “SquishyMuffinz” Arruda who was released to his team of choice, NRG.

The Editorial Management At IGN GIves Details About Why They Pulled Story About Getting Financial Help For Palestinians

May 28, 2021

IGN’s editorial management took responsibility for pulling a story raising money for Palestinians wounded in recent Israeli attacks, according to Vice Waypoint.

In response to an open letter signed by more than 80 IGN employees, who called the retraction a clear example of corporate overreach, Management received a memo from IGN chief content officer Peter Schneider.

In the memo, he noted that he discussed the post with IGN publisher John Davison and an unnamed boss, but he took responsibility for the decision. (About half of the editorial team signed the open letter, but not Schneider or Davison.)

According to him, the original publication of the post was evidence of the editorial team’s process failure.

An editorial ombudsman should work with management and staff to revamp the editorial process to prevent similar occurrences in the future while protecting editorial independence.

Vice Waypoint reports that IGN has taken responsibility for last week’s decision to pull a story raising money for Palestinians injured in Israeli attacks.

IGN chief content officer Peter Schneider responded to an open letter signed by over 80 employees (as of this writing) by calling the retraction of the article a clear case of corporate overreach.

In the memo, he noted that he discussed the post with IGN publisher John Davison and an unnamed boss, but he took responsibility for the decision. (Approximately three-quarters of the editorial team signed, but neither Schneider nor Davison.)

The original publication of the post he cited as evidence of editorial failure.

Schneider added that he wanted a third-party editorial ombudsman to work with management and staff to restructure the editorial process to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The characters you meet on your journey will all speak in their own language, making for an incredibly realistic experience. You will understand everything everyone is saying with a translator! The best way to make wild worlds feel real is with that.
You won’t want to miss out on Biomutant if you’re looking for your next big RPG adventure. Biomutant will be available on May 25th, 2021, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Your new-gen consoles will also be compatible with the game!

ByteDance CEO Will No Longer Dance With His Company By The End of 2021

May 21, 2021

ByteDance CEO Zhang Yiming announced recently that he will step down from his role at the end of the year, and his fellow co-founder and HR head Liang Rubo will take over the role.
A company letter stated that Yiming’s day-to-day responsibilities as CEO prevented him from focusing on the bigger picture, which is why he will transition into a new long-term strategy role within the company.
I believe I can best challenge the limits of what the company can achieve over the next decade, and drive innovation, by drawing on my strengths of highly-focused learning, systematic thought, and a willingness to attempt new things Yiming said.
He explained that by relinquishing my role as CEO and detaching himself from the daily management of the company, he would be able to focus on long-term strategies, organizational culture, and social responsibility with an objective perspective on the company.
Though ByteDance is best known for its TikTok short-form video sharing platform, the company has also entered the gaming industry.
In addition to its game development studios Ohayoo, Nuverse, and PixDance, it established Chinese game publisher Pixamin and launched its own casual game platform Danjuan Games in 2020.
The company has expanded its gaming footprint in 2021 with the acquisition of C4 Games and Moonton Technology.

US Game Spending Up Again For The 13th Straight Month

April 17, 2021

The industry-tracking NPD Group released its March 2021 report today, showing another increase in US game spending for the 13th consecutive month.
US gaming spending last month was up 18% year-over-year to $5.6 billion, according to the NPD Group.
A 47% increase in sales to $680 million was witnessed in the hardware sector.
In March, Nintendo’s Switch led in both unit sales and dollar sales, but the PlayStation 5 continues to perform well enough to bring in the most dollar sales of any platform so far in 2018.
In terms of lifetime dollar and unit sales the PS5 is the most successful console in US history so far.
For software, gamers spent almost $4.6 billion worldwide across consoles, mobiles, PCs, cloud-based services, and subscriptions.
Despite securing top spot in February, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (physical copies only) dropped to fourth place in March, giving the title back to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Between those two titles were two new games, Capcom’s Switch-exclusive Monster Hunter Rise and People Can Fly shooter Outriders. Rise achieved the second best launch month ever for a Monster Hunter game in terms of dollar sales, behind only Monster Hunter World.
And even though it first arrived last October, “Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time” took a full 50 positions above its February chart position when it made its March debut on Switch, Xbox X|S, and PS5.
In addition, accessories soared 26% to $300 million, with the PS5 DualSense controller being the best-selling peripheral of the month.
In April 2020, American corporations faced COVID-19 closures and emergency shelter-at-home measures for the first time, resulting in tougher year-over-year comparisons.
As of April 2016, the NPD reported spending on games up 73% year-over-year. (At the time, NPD’s monthly report didn’t include mobile spending, subscriptions, and other major factors that impacted consumer spending.)
