Thai Health Official Thinks That COVID-19 Could Last Another Year In Thailand

Covid-19 could continue for a few months or for a year, depending on the actions taken by the government and the people of Thailand. Director-General Somsak Ankasil made that statement this week in a video message to thank medical officials nationwide.
Several factors will affect our future and the future of the Covid-19 pandemic in Thailand, he said. He believes that Covid-19 can be brought under control in about 3 months, or possibly as early as one month. If improperly handled, or if more problems and obstacles arise, the Covid-19 pandemic could last for another year.

If improperly handled, or if more problems and obstacles arise, the Covid-19 pandemic could last for another year.
Even after a year and a half of dealing with Covid-19, Somsak called for unity and support in his message. The Thai government should be proactive in developing policies that will control Covid-19 infections directly and effectively, as well as contain outbreaks, something the government has been criticized for recently as people lose confidence in leadership’s ability to battle the virus.
As the fatigue of an 18-month pandemic wears on, the Director-General expressed the importance of residents of Thailand being vigilant and committed to safety. For the general public’s safety, he recommended continuing to wear masks, maintain social distance, and follow all restrictions and requirements. Though he acknowledged that citizens who were once willing to band together and accept restrictions for the greater good had now lost their patience and had become restless and frustrated.
In closing, he reaffirmed the commitment of the 18,000 members of the Department of Medical Services to work with the Thai people to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and to make the Thai people’s health and safety their first priority no matter what it takes.
