Games Magazines Removed Stories That Wanted People To Help Palestinians During The Current Crisis

In recent days, two of the largest games magazines have removed stories about how to support Palestinians hurt by the recent bombardment by Israel.

Among the first publications to post the links, IGN featured a brief note about Palestine’s civilian suffering, as well as a graphic of a Palestinian flag next to the IGN logo.

The story was pulled over the weekend, with IGN releasing a statement about the removal

Their expertise in support of humanitarian causes and charities across the globe went against our intent in attempting to show support for those impacted by tragic events in our recent post regarding how to help civilians in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. The post mistakenly gave the impression that we were politically aligned with one side. That was not our intent and they apologize for the error.

The decision not to publish the IGN article was not made by editorial staff.

Game Informer published a story with charity links recently, prefaced by a note about the crisis, saying, As violence escalates in the region, Palestinian civilians are suffering. Families are being evicted from their homes in Gaza, Jerusalem, and the surrounding areas.

GameStop officials did not immediately respond to press’s request for comment.

The GameSpot story is still up as of this writing. Not everyone has backed off their support. Additionally, Kotaku’s Saturday article remains up, despite being the most pointed assessment of the situation, calling Gaza an open-air prison subject to apartheid conditions imposed by the fascist Israeli government.

The press invites their readers to donate to the charities IGN and GameInformer were trying to support in light of the removal of the stories.

In its story, IGN sought to raise money for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, Anera, United Nations Relief and Works Agency, Medical Aid for Palestinians, and Doctors Without Borders.
