Facebook Gets A Little Bigger, Acquires Downpour Interactive

With the acquisition of Downpour Interactive, Facebook has added another developer to the Oculus Studios team.
Onward is developed by Downpour, a tactical virtual reality first-person shooter that has been in Early Access release for nearly five years.
The studio cited Oculus’s long-term community-building efforts as a particular asset in securing the deal.
Downpour Interactive is a best-in-class example of a developer working with its local community to create the best possible social and gaming experience, the firm said.
The studio announced the deal on its website. “With us joining Oculus Studios at Facebook, we now can realize Onward’s full vision with tremendous support and resources Buckley said.
This will mean a better game for everyone on all platforms. There are no changes in a hierarchy or in vision, everyone is still working hard to deliver the best game possible.
Buckley added that Downpour will continue to support the game and develop features specifically for platforms other than Oculus
The financial terms of the deal have not been revealed.
Throughout the past two years, Facebook has bolstered its internal VR capabilities through acquisitions, purchasing Beat Games, Sanzaru Games, and Ready at Dawn.
