The Thai GPO Says That More Sinovac COVID-19 Vaccine Is Coming To Thailand In May 2021

In May 2021, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) says, Thailand will receive 3.5 million doses of the Sinovac Biotech coronavirus vaccine.
More than 2 million doses are due by the end of May, Witoon Danwiboon said at a press conference on Friday, April 30th, 2021.
Since the outbreak began, the latest coronavirus outbreak, which includes the highly transmissible B.1.1.7 variant, has accounted for over half of all cases and deaths in the country, with 36,290 infections and 109 fatalities in April alone.
On Friday, April 30th, 2021, health officials reported 1,583 new cases and 15 deaths, and 250 patients were on ventilators.
Although the country has not yet begun its mass vaccination drive, it has been administering the 2.5 million doses of the Sinovac CoronaVac vaccine so far, primarily to health workers and people deemed at risk of exposure.
The mass vaccination campaign will rely heavily on 61 million shots of AstraZeneca vaccines to be manufactured in Siam by Siam Bioscience, with vaccinations set to begin in June 2021
According to Reuters, Zuellig Pharma has applied for emergency use authorization and to import Moderna vaccine into Thailand.
If approved, this will be the fourth vaccine to be approved for local use.
The third wave of the Covid outbreak is approaching, and the authorities are under pressure to speed up vaccinations. Only about 1.4 million people, or 2.5% of the population, have received at least one inoculation.
Anutin Charnvirakul, health minister, said that Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm has also begun discussions with the government about its vaccine.
