FIrst Olympic Esports Event Starts in May 2021

The International Olympic Committee announced there will be an Olympic Virtual Series (OVS), the first time the Olympics will officially recognize an esports event.
IOC has partnered with five international associations and game publishers. This series will begin on May 13th, 2021, and run until June 23rd, 2021. Production and marketing of the series will be carried out by DreamHack.
The IOC president, Thomas Bach, stated that the series would be a new, unique Olympic experience that would highlight virtual sports and engage new audiences. THE OVS will be an international competition with participants from all over the world. You can compete at home or from a training facility. This series will consist of five events that will be run by one of the game publishers involved.
ICO and game publishers talked about the possibility of having a digital sports competition that resulted in the 2021 series.
The IOC and federation sports first discussed recognizing esports in 2017.
At the 2018 Olympic summit, it was decided that it was too soon to make esports an Olympic medal event. However, the summit did recommend that the Olympic movement continue speaking with the gaming community.
